A festival at your doorstep
Earlier this year, music heads and art aficionados were delighted by the Malasimbo Music & Arts Festival, which took place from March 2-4 at the stunning Mt. Malasimbo in Puerto Galera. Over 3,500 city dwellers made their way to Mindoro to enjoy a three-day festival – an attendance that more than doubled from its first year. As the second installment of the event, the festival was a huge success and garnered excellent feedback from the audience at large.
The organizers of the Malasimbo Festival, Volume Unit Entertainment, makes change once more with the first-ever Manila Music Festival. Aligned with the Department of Tourism’s Multi-Festival Tourism Strategy and with the endorsement of Secretary Jimenez and his office, the Manila Music Festival will take place this Labor Day, May 1.
The festival will feature headlining international acts Shinichi Osawa (Mondo Grosso; Japan) and Ali Shaheed Muhammad from A Tribe Called Quest (NYC), as well as “Amen Ra of the Universal Hip Hop Culture,” Afrika Bambaataa (Zulu Nation; NYC). Festival goers will also be treated to some of Manila’s finest performers who are no strangers to the big stage. Razorback, Kjwan, Wilabaliw, SinoSikat, Lady I and June Marieezy will serve up some Rock, Pinoy Soul, Reggae, Dancehall, and Hip hop.
The festival will take place at the Alphaland Bay City at Aseana Avenue, ParaƱaque, near the Mall of Asia. The festival site is a 250 meter x 150 meter portion of reclaimed costal land and offers audiences a grand view of the Manila Bay Sunset. This is a portion of the bay where the air is fresh and there is wide open breathing space - a priceless feature in a city as dense as ours.
Tickets are available at Ticketworld for Php1,500 (and at the event gate for Php2,000). Bundle ticket promos are available until April 25 via http://ManilaMusicFestival.com. Gates open at 1pm; it’s best to be early to bag your spot. This event is for adults 18 years and older. Valid identification will be requested at the gates.
