Each song in Avenged Sevenfold’s latest album “Nightmare” has become an ode of praise and love to their brother, The Rev, who unexpectedly passed away during the making of the album. The band though halted by grief and sorrow, decided to continue on with finishing each tracks, channeling their pain into songs that will serve as their brother’s legacy to the world. The Rev was recently awarded in the second annual Revolver Golden God Awards as Best Drummer and the band received the award in his behalf. Being an astounding musician and extremely talented drummer, The Rev would be irreplaceable. Fans of Avenged Sevenfold would never forget the gift that The Rev shared through their music.
After deciding to complete the album “Nightmare”, the band brought it Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater to work on the drum tracks of the album. It seems justly appropriate to have Portnoy working on The Rev’s work since he considered him as one of his “drum idols”. He played The Rev’s drum tracks as how it would sound if The Rev himself was behind the drums. Portnoy was with Avenged Sevenfold for the duration of 2010. Afterwards, Arin Ilejay, formerly of metalcore band Confide, replaced Portnoy and continued playing for the band for the remainder of the tour.
Arin Ilejay, also came from a family of musician. His father, Ric Ilejay, of American and Filipino descent, was a professional guitar player while his mother was a gospel singer. Growing up under a variety of musical influence has given Arin the musical versatility that he has. He was recommended by A7X studio drum tech Mike Fasano and has impressed the band with his attitude, professionalism and work ethics. Avenged Sevenfold released the following statement in their official website last January 2011
“We recently asked several friends who knew Jimmy and his style, and also knew our music and each of our personalities to suggest drummers to tour with us starting this year. Our longtime studio drum tech Mike Fasano recommended Arin Ilejay. We’ve rehearsed with Arin and have been impressed with his technical skills, attitude and work ethic. We’re very excited to tour with Arin and hope all of you will give him the warm welcome to the family we have.”
Although Arin isn’t officially a member of the band, the band and fans the A7X has welcomed him as part of the family and shared a mutual pleasure in working with each other. Avenged Sevenfold recorded an single with Arin called “Not Ready to Die” which was featured on Call of Duty: Black Ops.
