Still Alive: The BigBang Alive Galaxy Tour in Manila Experience

Posted on 01:46 by Unknown

Title: Still Alive: The BigBang Alive Galaxy Tour in Manila Experience
Written by Ava Sharra Sumortin || Photos from BIGBANG official Facebook page
One of the most unforgettable and most anticipated concerts of 2012 was definitely this South Korean band’s one night only show in Manila last October 24. BigBang is one of the most celebrated groups that have continuously shot to fame not only in their homeland, South Korea, but also worldwide. The Philippines is not an exception in acknowledging that this band has something special to offer to music enthusiasts.
So when it was first officially announced that this first-rate five-member band included Manila as a part of their mmense Alive Galaxy Tour, the VIP (what BigBang fans are affectionately called) fandom was excited. The fans thoroughly prepared for this chance to finally see the band live.

October 24 came and we saw the Mall of Asia Arena surrounded by VIPs armed with their yellow crown lightsticks. The energy was high even though some fans stayed there overnight. VIPs were singing along to the songs playing outside the venue and you could already tell that this night was going to be unforgettable.
When they finally let the crowd inside the arena, the screams and the voices singing along to the videos were building up the anticipation. Then the lights dimmed and the screen showed the intro for the show. As a VIP myself, I cannot even start to describe the feeling of finally realizing that I was going to finally see them in person, singing the songs that I have been listening to everyday. It seems that the whole arena felt exactly the way I did because the shrieks intensified.

With “Still Alive” playing in the background, G-Dragon, T.O.P, Taeyang, Daesung, and Seungri greeted Manila’s yellow ocean inside their capsules. The group started off with their 2011 hit, “Tonight” and followed it up with uptempo songs “Hands Up”, crowd favorite “Fantastic Baby”, “How Gee”, and “Stupid Liar”. Seungri tried to teach the crowd the “Fantastic Baby” dance too. They also expressed their appreciation for the warm reception that the Filipinos gave them. Most probably thanks to Sandara Park, the boys knew some expressions that can make the crowd wild. They used “Mahal ko kayo” and “Salamat” often.
Dynamic performances? Check. Pyrotechnics? Check. Stunning stage and lights? Check. Fashion eye candy? Check. It was a feast for the senses… and this was just the start.

The concert also showcased the sub-units and solo acts of the band. The GD&TOP duo then proved why they are considered one of Korea’s best rappers with “Knock Out”. They owned the stage and played with their songs. This is just a peek at how playful the members actually are. They also performed the highly-infectious song “High High”.

BigBang’s maknae (youngest member) shouldn’t get left behind. Seungri came out with laser lights and attested that he too can be a “Strong Baby”. He also performed “What Can I Do”.
Since the band already had a handful of hits to their name, a part of their set list also included some old songs like “Gara Gara Go” and “Number 1”, which immediately made the crowd dance to the beat of their music.
One of the things that make this band different from other groups is their ability to produce songs that are diverse. They can create hip-hop and R&B beats, uptempo songs, bubblegum pop songs, and of course, ballads. “Café”, “Bad Boy”, Blue”, “Love Song”, and “Monster” are just some of the hits that are under this genre. I especially love the arrangement that they had for “Love Song”. The live band really added to the experience because you could hear the songs that you’ve always loved in a different light. I also consider “Feeling” as one of the songs that sound different live.

The soulful voice of Taeyang then filled the arena with his hits “Only Look at Me” and “Wedding Dress”. He also showed in prowess in dancing when he had his stage.
The last member to have a solo performance was Daesung. His song “Wings” touches a soft spot in the heart of all VIPs. The smile he gave to the crowd was one of the most memorable things that I have seen that night.

“Day By Day”, “Lies”, and “Last Farewell” are the last three songs that they performed before their encore. These three songs are timeless fan favorites. The crowd has been singing along to most of the songs during the show, but VIPs also sounded amazing while the group asked them to sing “Day By Day”. Seungri even jokingly said that the crowd sounded better than him. I still get goose bumps just remembering how the whole arena just sang their hearts out. Isn’t it astounding that language is never a barrier when it comes to music?

The encore was also a way for the group to interact more with their fans. The members gave some pieces of their outfit away. They showed their playful side and the crowd also threw some toys for the band. They also used more Tagalog phrases which fans really appreciate. Who could forget G-Dragon’s accent while saying “Magandang gabi”? More songs were also performed. “My Heaven”, “Bad Boy”, “Fantastic Baby”, and “Feeling” completed the set list for the Manila leg of their Galaxy Alive Tour.

I came home from that show half-deaf and my throat felt like it was about to give up. Now, almost three months after that night, the concert was something that I, without question, would want to experience again.

Concert Review: Saved Festival 2012

Saved Festival 2012
Written by Bianchi Mendoza
Photos by Psalm Malabuen

The SM Mall of Asia Arena was abuzz with anticipation and swelling with positivity as the second-ever Saved Festival took place there last Friday, October 26. Feel-good music with a message filled the 20,000 seating capacity arena. Concert-goers enjoyed Christian Music, which unbeknownst to some, has many genres.

From rock, pop, rnb or even, rap, Christian Music offers something for every type of audiophile. The beats and melodies may vary but the message remains the same, a unified harmony and a desire to share their beliefs with the world. The atmosphere within the arena was solemn, celebratory and at times, reflective. The spiritual lyrics were as powerful as the message they longed to share. Manila-based band Gloryfall kicked things off. This 7-member band also conducts seminars on worhip-leading and music mentorship throughout the Philippines. They were followed by Cebu-based band Paglaum who played their original Visayan Christian Music. Paglaum has toured all over Cebu with their concert, Awit sa Kasingkasing (Song for the Heart).

Abandon, an alternative rock band from San Antonio, Texas, took the stage after a brief intermission which was punctuated by the occasional shriek of excitement. Abandon premiered their single, “Let Go” (which many may remember from last year’s Saved Festival Intro Video).

The Katinas, who last visited the Philippines in 2008, came next. Made up of five biological brothers:  John, Jesse, James, Joe and Sam, The Katinas have played almost everywhere, from their home country American Samoa to different churches and countries all over the globe. They recently released their first album in three years entitled Collage. They stopped mid-set to pay tribute to the women in their lives and in the audience by singing Bruno Mars’ hit “Just The Way You Are” while delighting the audience with family photos. Desperation Band also known as DBand, ended the concert with their well-known worship songs like “Rescue” and “I Am Free”.

Midway through the concert, Pastor Joey Bonifacio took the stage for a few minutes. He shared insights from the Bible and from his newly published book entitled, The Lego Principle. The book illustrates loving God and loving others by using Lego bricks. Pastor Joey shares how we can make a difference by connecting and embracing our purpose in the grand scheme of things regardless of how small or insignificant we may feel at times. Each of us is valued, each of us has the power to shape and change the world.

Last year’s Saved Festival focused on themes of living a life without any compromise—living an authentic Christian Life. This year’s festival focused more on learning to guard against false teachings and to hold on the truth. Saved Festival 2012 was a triumph for the organizers (Becca Music Inc, etc.) performers and audience. It served as a reminder that there is hope for the Philippines and that there is always reason to be thankful—reason to celebrate.

Concert Review: Wilson Phillips enthralls Manila with their sentimental pop hits

Wilson Phillips enthralls Manila with their sentimental pop hits
Written by Jamie Ortega

One of the brightest memories from my childhood was of a music video with a group of girls singing their hearts out atop a mountain. They were pretty, stylish, and they had amazing voices. Their song Hold Ongave me hope. As I was going through the usual growing pains of failing grades, class bullies and unreasonably strict parents, that song encouraged me to look toward better days. Thus began my admiration for Carnie Wilson, Wendy Wilson and Chynna Philips, collectively known as Wilson Philips. I fell in love with their other hit songs as well like Youre In Love, Impulsive, and Release Me.I had cassette tapes and even vinyl records of their self-titled debut album and their second album, Shadows And Light.

With that being said, I was really excited when I found out that they were coming to Manila for a one night show at the Mall Of Asia Arena. I simply had to hear the songs of my youth, and thanks to the kind people at Random Minds productions, I did! Before the pop trio performed last Friday, October 12, 2012 two very interesting front acts put the audience  in a very good mood (despite the horrible traffic outside)- retail princess turned jazz singer  Bea Tantoco and YouTube sensation Zandy Rose Tenerefe. I was really impressed by Zandy who delivered stirring, goose bump-inducing renditions of Leona Lewis’ Bleeding Heartand Whitney Houston’s I Will Always Love You.

After two entertaining front acts, the pop trio finally appeared on stage, inciting excited cheers and screams from their Pinoy fans that waited for more than 10 years to see their pop idols perform live! What followed after that was an hour and a half of nostalgic tunes from the ‘60s, ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90 starting with It’s Only Life, the leading track from the trio’s second album. After that was Dedicated To The One I Love from their latest album Dedicated, an album inspired by the girl’s parents. To those unfamiliar with the Wilson Philips’ truly inspiring showbiz lineage, Carnie and Wendy Wilson are daughters of Beach Boys legendary writer and producer Brian Wilson and Chyna Philips is the daughter of John and Michelle Phillips of the band Mamas And Papas.

Aside from their charming vocal harmonies and inspiring song lyrics, I also marveled at how comfortable the ladies were on stage. They made their audience feel like they were in the living room with them, chatting with their best friends. Carnie, Wendy and Chynna cracked jokes with one another and made the audience chuckle with their impersonations of Cher, Taylor Dayne, and Cyndi Lauper.

In many ways the concert felt like it was also the trios’ way of thanking the people who’ve helped them along the way, from their parents to their musical influences like Elton John and Abba. Unlike other groups who perform covers and copy everything from the song’s notes and riffs, Wilson Phillips truly made their rendition of Elton John’s Daniel their own with their unique harmony-rich sound and captivating melodies.
The highlight of most concerts is when the performers sing their biggest hits, and this show was no different. The screams and cheers in the arena reached an all-time high when the girls began to sing the opening lines of their mega-hit You’re In Love. I could almost picture the ex-girlfriends or the ex-boyfriends in the minds of the audience as they sang the song with all the strength they could muster.

Ever been obsessed with a song but completely clueless with the history and meaning behind the song? Chynna Philips put all questions regarding the meaning of her parents hit tune California Dreaming to rest as she explained how the song came about. According to Chynna it was 1963 and her song mother was newly married to John Philips. They were living in New York City, which was having particularly cold winter, at least by Michelle's standards as she was from sunny California. John would walk around the apartment at night working out tunes, and one morning brought the first verse of the song to Michelle. It was a song about longing to be in another place, and it was inspired by Michelle's homesickness. Michelle enjoyed visiting churches, and a few days before, she and John visited St. Patrick's Cathedral, which inspired the second verse.

California Dreamswas followed by You Wont See Me Cry,their hit single from their Shadows And Light album and another cover, the band’s rendition of Beach Boys’ Wouldn’t It Be Nice with Wendy singing the lead vocals this time around. Even if I wasn’t born in the ‘60s and ‘70s I enjoyed listening to these songs because of their timeless flavor and sweet melodies that effortlessly brought me back in time.  What followed after that was a real treat for Wilson Phillips fans, for the first time after 20 years they sang Don’t Take Me Down, also from their Shadows And Light album. This was followed by another cover, their version of the emotionally-charged Go Your Own Way, a Fleetwood Mac classic.

Veering away from the series of ballads in the show’s playlist was the 11th song that night, a  delightful  Abba medley of Dancing Queen and Does Your Mother Know that brought the audience to their feet! Having Chynna say, “If there are any dancers in the audience stand up,” helped of course although it really didn’t take a lot of time to make us party loving Filipinos shake our booty’s like there was no tomorrow! Is there any prom in the world that didn’t play Dancing Queen? I didn’t think so!

The energy rose even further when the first notes of Impulsive came on, the third single from their debut album. As the girls were making so many people’s dreams come true on stage, I realized why  I loved these girls so much, their songs weren’t just songs they were girl-power anthems! They didn’t dwell on the sad things that were happening in their life, they loved, they lost, and they moved on. And in many ways and through many songs they taught me to do that as well.

It really seemed as if the girls saved the best for last, judging by the last leg of the concert made up of another mega-hit Release Me and the Beach Boys Kokomowhich according to them was a really apt song for them to sing because they were in a tropical a country.

Songs, just like people, have their own lifespan. They can be heard nearly every hour on the radio at the peak of their career till they die a slow death only to be played once a week at best. When Wilson Philips released their debut album Wilson Philips in 1990 it hit no 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart on June 9, 1990, bumping Madonna’s Vogue off the top spot. The song was given a “second wind” or so to speak when it climbed to the charts after the song and the girls were included in Oscar-nominated comedy Bridesmaids. At the press conference the day before the concert Chynna revealed how their cameo came about. “Since we haven’t appeared on any film since we were kids, we immediately said yes.”  Having a song as iconic as that for the night’s finale couldn’t have been a better choice. As the encore tunes In My Room and Hold On came on it really felt like a fantastic ending to a night filled with love, dreams coming true, nostalgia, and good ole fan girling!

AXE PHILIPPINES GIVES METRO MANILA'S DRIVERS A VERY SEXY TIME

Posted on 00:42 by Unknown

Axe Philippines gave Metro Manila's driving population one sexy time last October 27 at the Aseana City Grounds with the AXE ANARCHY ISLAND BIKINI CAR WASH.  Axe had their hottest girls go wet and wild on people's rides to raise funds to preserve and promote their favorite island in the country. They are out to clean the beaches of Boracay by matching the funds raised from the sexy car wash.

Keeping the event (and the girls) vibrant and festive were the performances and participation of two iconic Filipino rock acts, namely Chicosci and Sponge Cola. The latter, caught in between gigs, had their very own tour van cleaned up before hitting the road again in the evening. The bands both agreed that helping in the preservation of the popular Philippine destination is a must.

To save the beaches of Boracay, Axe Philippines partnered with Hands On Manila, a foundation that gives Filipinos fun ways to volunteer their time. One of their flagship projects, Hands On Volunteer Vacations (HOVV), local and foreigners may volunteer for community service as part of their vacation itineraries. Through Hands On Manila, volunteering can be fitted into daily schedules even for the busiest people, making it a great way to make a difference - an ideal for young people everywhere.

Axe is also sending two Axe Ambassadors off to Belize to represent the Philippines in the AXE ANARCHY ISLAND, an international gathering of Axe ambassadors from all over the world in a remote paradise island in the Caribbean. We have four ambassadors, rather candidates, competing become the official Axe Philippines representatives to the Axe party in Belize.

Vying for the Belize tickets are:
Model and PXC ring girl Abby Poblador
Web jock and host Karen Bordador and Radio personalities DJ Gino Quillamor of The Morning Rush and DJ Tony Toni of the Boys Night Out.

You can choose who to send to Boracay by going to http://www.sexysavesboracay.com

Concert Review: David Guetta turns Mall Of Asia Arena into one big dance party!

Posted on 10:49 by Unknown

David Guetta turns Mall Of Asia Arena into one big dance party!
Written by Jamie Ortega
Photos by Jasper Lucena

Party goers packed the Mall Of Asia arena last October 10, 2012 as the world’s number one DJ, David Guetta, rocked the dance floor with his chart-topping club beats. Just as he promised to in a recent article on Yahoo OMG, Guetta treated party philes from all walks of life to a “magical journey,” full of unforgettable dance hits, a trip that began at around 9 pm when concertgoers were treated to complimentary cups of Captain Morgan’s Original Spiced Rum before entering the venue. While holding the potent drink in their hands, people in the crowd began to bust their own moves, bop their head to the music, and sway their Styrofoam glow sticks in the air as Guetta’s special guest Australian singer and DJ Kaz James put the crowd in a party mood with his infectious beats. Alesso, an international EDM sensation who was personally chosen by Madonna as a support act for her tour, was Guetta’s second guest DJ. He played his tracks Years, Calling (Lose My Mind), and Every Chance We Get We Run.

As the two stellar DJ’s revved up the crowd with their heart-thumping beats, this writer silently marveled at the diverse cliques present at the event. There were yuppies, college students, socialites, and representatives from the fashion and business industries-just to name a few. Indeed, only Guetta, the man responsible for taking dance music to dizzying heights, could have converged such a diverse group of people seemingly united by one goal- to let loose and PARTY THE NIGHT AWAY!

The crowd became even wilder at the stroke of midnight as laser green lights filled the stage. Finally, after hours of waiting, the two time Grammy –winning house music producer, wearing a gray top and jeans, set the arena on fire with his mind-altering electronic beats. The Paris-born Guetta, who is known for his show stopping fusion of dance and electro-pop music, began his set with the massive hit Tiitanium featuring Sia. This was followed by the master DJ’s other hits including Sexy Chick aka Sexy Bitch featuring Akon, and Turn Me On featuring Nicki Minaj.

Adding to the party atmosphere was an LED screen flashing titles of Guetta’s hits accompanied by a spectacular fusion of multi-colored psychedelic laser lights that matched each tune. The smile that was on David’s face at the start of his set grew even bigger as he waved to the crowd and pumped his fists in the air, grateful and happy for the overwhelming reception. After having sold three million albums and 15 million singles worldwide, it’s wonderful to see the celebrated DJ act so humble and appreciative, gestures that will surely earn him even more fans.  After hours of cheering, squealing, bopping, grooving,  and screaming, Guetta ended the show with two songs, a  remix he’s never played before and one of his biggest hits to date, Without You, featuring Usher. The “magical journey”,

continued ‘till the break of dawn at the after party held at the second floor of the Mall Of Asia Arena as concertgoers toasted to an amazing show!

THIS IS NOT A CHICOSCI RECORD OUT THIS OCT. 31 AT EASTWOOD CENTRAL PLAZA

Posted on 10:42 by Unknown

Three years since the release of their last studio album and after endless gigging and touring, Chicosci is finally releasing their much-anticipated sixth album, This Is Not A Chicosci Record. The ever-so-dynamic rock group has been in the lab the past year, writing and recording new material with producer Eric Perlas of Tower of Doom Studios, and is set to make waves again with this new album under MCA Music Inc.

Always evolving with each album, the band has once again pushed themselves creatively with this new outing. Chicosci wants their listeners to be devoid of any preconceived notions of who the band is or how they should sound like.

“It’s shouldn’t be important who the artist is,” says singer Miggy Chavez.  “We hope people like the album because it’s good music and not because it’s Chicosci. And if people don’t like the record, we hope it’s because they actually listened to it and hated the music or (not like it) because it’s OPM.” The album features 14 tracks including the first single “Stealing Kisses”, the feel-good “Raspberry:  Girl” and the rock ballad “Sleep Station”.

This Is Not A Chicosci Record will be released digitally on iTunes on October 22 and on mymusicstore on October 23. Fans can purchase the CD on October 31 during their album launch at Eastwood Central Plaza at 7pm. Since it will be the first day the This Is Not A Chicosci Record will be sold, those who will buy the album for only P290 at the venue will get a free baller ID. Also available is the Chiscoci T-Shirt Bundle which includes a Chicosci shirt, the new Chicosci album for only P499 with a free baller ID. The free baller ID and the Chicosci T-shirt bundle will be just for the launch only so better save up and spend your Halloween at Eastwood Central Plaza this Oct. 31.

Concert Review: Foster The People Pumps Up Manila!

Posted on 17:55 by Unknown
Title: Foster The People Pumps Up Manila!
Written by Jamie Ortega
Photos by Ferdie Arquero, Kris Rocha and Magic Liwanag Photography

I must admit, when I heard that Indie-pop act Foster The People was going to Manila for a one-night show, I had my doubts. The three man band made up of vocalist/songwriter/guitarist/vocalist Mark Foster, bassist Cubbie Fink, and drummer Mark Pontious only had one hit to their name, the infectious and upbeat Pumped Up Kicks, which, in my mind, was certainly not enough to fill up the Araneta Coliseum.

Boy, was I wrong! (And pleasantly surprised, I might add). As soon as I entered the Big Dome last October 8, 2012 I saw a large crowd full of fans crazy about the group’s signature electronica stylings, heavy hooks, and infectious rhythms. Hipsters and non-hipsters alike (although I must say there were a lot of hipsters), immediately showed their love for the group by standing on their seats as early as the band’s first song, the sleek and heavy hooked Miss You. After listening to their first round of tunes, I slowly began to understand their appeal, why people were instantly drawn to the indie electronic outfit’s hypnotic disco pop sound, –in a landscape full of forgettable auto-tune manufactured hits, the band’s diverse musical stylings ranging from foot stomping arcade game-sounding anthems to wailing ballads, all covered in reverb-heavy synths, is a breath of fresh air indeed!
By the time the second song, Life On The Nickel, came on, the Big Dome was starting to look like a lit up boulevard as thousands of people threw up their glow sticks in the air and began to scream. But more than just the crowd’s reaction to the band, props must indeed be given to the three lads as well because they really did all they could to give their audience a great show. Mark Foster lived up to the many slashes in his name by running from instrument to instrument- clad in a white jacket the good-looking vocalist started Life On The Nickel by playing on the piano then immediately ran to the drums playing across Mark Pontious, before going to the mike stand then back to the piano.

One could really see the passion and heart the group had for their music as the third song and fourth songs, Houdini and Broken Jaw, came on. It wasn’t any kind of passion mind you; it was an infectious kind of passion that made the crowd start to sing the song’s lyrics in unison. Pleased by the reaction of the audience, front man Foster began to head bang while playing the piano before stretching his arms sideways and  doing a little dance on stage. Even if you aren’t a hard-core fan, the intense and fun-filled presence of the group on stage makes it worth every penny.

Let’s face it- I don’t know about you but I think I am a little sick and tired of the usual “Mahal kita, salamat,” greetings from foreign acts. Good thing Mark Foster went a little further by sharing in between songs a connection the front man had to our country. Foster revealed that his grandfather, who served in the military, lived in Manila in the ‘40s while his dad who was a hippie, stayed in Manila for two years back in the ‘70s. “My dad told me he watched a band play here back in 1973,” Foster shared to the audience. “I’m older than my dad when he was here.”
He was also amused at the fact that the Big Dome was where boxer Muhammad Ali fought Joe Frazier during the historic Thrilla In Manila. “You guys got history. You guys got passion,” he marveled. “You guys have Manny Pacquiao, the best boxer since Ali,” he added.

After performing Broken Jaw, the boys launched into a crowd favorite, Would Do Anything For You, followed by Waste and Love. Aside from the music, I also liked the play of lights that lit the stage, from purple to red, to yellow; they made the show even more vibrant and appealing to watch. Among all of the songs, I think I enjoyed Call It What You Want the most because it was where Foster played around with the audience. He sang the “woooohoooo,” part of the song and made the audience do the same, an act that made him reveal a conversation he had with Maroon 5 guitarist James Valentine. According to Valentine, the best thing he remembers about Manila was that everyone had perfect pitch- a comment which elicited even more cheers and screams from the crowd. He ended the song by jumping around, dancing onstage, playing on the keyboards and drums again. I was seriously getting tired just watching the whole group perform onstage!

Call It What You Want was followed by Don’t Stop (Color On TheWalls), Warrant, and Helena Beat. After a total of 11 songs the group called it a night by performing two more songs for their encore, Ruby and their biggest hit to date, Pumped Up Kicks. To end the night, Foster jumped into the audience shaking hands and mingling with people as two white inflatable balloons rose up onstage. Needlessly to say, everyone walked out of Araneta Coliseum pumped and incredibly happy. As if the entire show wasn’t enough to make any non-convert morph into a Foster The People fan, did you know that they didn’t have a sound check before the show? That’s how effortlessly good they are!

Celebrities spotted in the audience: Anne Curtis, Khalil Ramos, John James Uy

James Morrison to Serenade the Big Dome Tonight

Posted on 00:49 by Unknown

Title: James Morrison to Serenade the Big Dome Tonight
Written and Photos by Ava Sharra Sumortin

James Morrison is known for his soulful songs and the honesty of his lyrics and music. The artist behind the hits “You Give Me Something”, “The Pieces Don’t Fit Anymore”, “Broken Strings” (featuring Nelly Furtado), “I Won’t Let You Go”, and “Up” (featuring Jessie J) will perform live in Manila today October 8. Yesterday, he indulged the members of the media for an intimate press conference.

He was first asked about his arrival in Manila. He described it as a “strange experience” because it was hectic. He was welcomed with camera crews and police escorts. I guess Filipinos always go the extra mile when it comes to being hospitable.

Since Manila is not exactly a stone’s throw away from England, his hometown, he is pleased to be in our shores. Prior to traveling to our country, he said he had no idea about the Philippines. So how does he feel that his music touches people halfway across the world? He said, “It feels like I’m doing my job… like I’m bridging the gap between people around the world.”
He is oftentimes dubbed as a “white soul” singer. I feel that it’s not only because of his music, but also with the impression that you get from him. According to him, though, “I try not to think about color, I try to think about the feeling… Call it what you want, as long as you like it.”

His musical influences span generations. He grew up listening to songs from the early ‘60s to early ‘70s. He didn’t mind the artists and the singers as long as they are “good songs with passion and soul.” Now that he is one of the world’s most charismatic artists, he makes use of the upbringing that he had to create his latest album, “The Awakening”. He describes the album as a process of him “waking up as a person or artist.”

He is also known for his heartfelt songwriting skills. He said that he writes songs “for people who can’t express themselves.” That particular answer made an impact on me personally. We all feel we can relate to songs one way or another and that makes us attached to a song. That’s what makes songs unforgettable. What’s the best atmosphere for him to create a song? He said writing songs is much easier with problems. That explains all the James Morrison songs that seem to tug at our heartstrings. In addition to that, thinks he was born sad. “I think we are born sad. You just find your way to be happy,” he said. I couldn’t agree more.

Since he started being a singer when he was young, he was asked about his advice to other artists that want to make their songs be heard. He advised that musicians should not always try to please people by staying true to themselves and their music.
Tonight, James Morrison will hold his concert in Manila for the first time and fans should expect “some good old-fashioned rock and roll experience.” For sure, that is something that he will give.
The Awakening World Tour: James Morrison Live in Manila is presented by Midas Promotions.
