Metallica in Singapore this August 2013

Posted on 02:52 by Unknown
The wait is over! LAMC Productions is thrilled to welcome icons METALLICA to Singapore for the first time in 20 years! The concert will take place at Changi Exhibition Centre on Saturday, August 24 at 8pm.

Metallica’s concert will be the first ever concert to be staged at the Changi Exhibition Centre. “There wasn’t a venue big enough for Metallica in Singapore so we had to make a new one.” says Ross Knudson, co-owner of LAMC Productions.

To ensure convenience of concert goers travelling to Changi Exhibition Centre, there will be public shuttle service to the event grounds and after the concert. Schedules and pick up point locations will be advised at a later date.

Formed in 1981 by drummer Lars Ulrich and guitarist and vocalist James Hetfield, Metallica have become one of the most influential and commercially successful rock bands in history, having sold 110 million albums worldwide and playing to millions of fans the world over. They have scored several multi-platinum albums, including 1991’s Metallica (commonly referred to as “The Black Album”), which is the best selling album in history of Soundscan scanning 16 million albums in the United States alone. Their latest album, Death Magnetic, was certified platinum just six weeks after it debuted atop the Billboard Top 200 Album chart in October 2008. Death Magnetic charted at #1 in 32 countries. Metallica have also garnered numerous awards and accolades, including nine Grammy Awards, two American Music Awards, and multiple MTV Video Music Awards, and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in 2009.

The band recently celebrated its 30th-Anniversary with a week’s worth of fan club concerts at the Fillmore Theater in San Francisco, CA. In 2012, they announced the launch of Orion Music + More, an annual two-day festival curated and headlined by the band.  This past summer, Metallica unveiled a brand new stage in Mexico City that featured iconic elements that spanned its 30-year career. They played eight shows to nearly 180,000 fans at the Sports Arena in Mexico City. Later that month the band performed four shows on the same stage in Canada, two in Edmonton and two in Vancouver, during which they shot their upcoming Nimród Antal directed 3D Feature Film, Through The Never, which will be released in 2013.

When it comes to touring, there are few, if any, bands who deliver live the way Metallica do. Their shows, which began in clubs and garages in the early eighties, are now selling out in arenas and stadiums throughout the world, and continue to be among the most intense, powerful and visually stimulating concert experiences ever delivered. The most impressive achievement that bears mentioning is the fact that Metallica continue to be a strong attraction in the touring world; a truly rare feat in today’s mercurial entertainment business, where fans often change allegiance to bands as often as they do hairstyles.

Metallica are a band whose success can be directly attributed to a passion and no-compromise attitude in every project they undertake.

Them Deftones..

Posted on 05:38 by Unknown

Title: Them Deftones...
Written by Niche Dumlao
Deftones is one of the most influential bands around, and it doesn’t take a genius to conclude that. In fact, they’re more than that. They’ve made themselves are integral. Not only in the heavier side of the scene, but music in general.
Boasting an unstoppable longevity, plus collection of acclaimed singles, ball-breaking albums and unforgettable music videos, this group from Southern California is one of the living proofs that hardcore still hits hard. Beyond that, the guys have always found a way to keep their sound fresh without losing their identity. No wonder they’ve been around for more than 15 years…and counting.

That’s why it comes as no surprise how a lot of people look up to this Grammy winning act - including a lot of our local artists. Well who wouldn’t? After all, Deftones may exactly be the poster boys for rock that’s both revolutionary and evolutionary. Forever creating ways to advance the genre. Hence we at MCS made some rounds within our band scene and asked a couple of our favorite musicians on their take why Deftones is such a defining force in the world of rock, likewise, and their favorite Deftones track.
And we now give the floor to these guys….

TJ BRILLANTES, Greyhoundz
The Deftones were never corny. They were able to withstand the test of time without forcing anything. But basically, they just sound damn good.
My favorite Deftones song is “Lifter” from Adrenaline. It’s just one of those song from your childhood that still sounds good today.

JIO CLAVANO, Pitik
Deftones is such an important band because they stood the test of time. They’ve always done things their way and according to what they want to do. Which means a lot considering how the industry works. Their evolution through the years has nothing to do with the pressures to be or sound different.
“Kimdracula” from Saturday Night Wrist is my favorite. The feel of the song is the feeling of being in a different world. The heavy guitars na hinaluan ng lambing na boses is what Deftones is about for me. Kahit gaano kabigat yung kanta, never siya masakit sa tenga. Magic nila ‘yun.

They are very charismatic in terms of their image and stage presence. They are also sonically strong. I have personally been highly influenced by their music. They have achieved a very unique sound of their own that you cannot box in into one specific genre. My favorite Deftones songs would be 7 words, Nosebleed, My Own Summer, Lotion, Head Up, Elite, When Girls Telephone Boys, Hexagram, Needles and Pins, Digital Bath, Riviere, Xerces, Sextape, 976-Evil, Prince, RX Queen, Entombed, What Happened To You, Gauze, Rosemary, Diamond Eyes…I love all these songs because these songs speak to me in a way that’s beyond myself.

MACOY ESTACIO, Chicosci

I think the reason why Deftones is such a fixture is because they know how to make beautiful music. I’ve been listening to them since I was 12 and I still appreciate and love thier musical style up to now. They reall y are one of the most influential bands ever. As for favorite track, “Be Quiet and Drive”…just be quiet and listen to it.

DANIEL GARCIA, Earthmover

One reason why Deftones is majorly relevant…they keep coming up with great records time and time again. It’s their consistency sa craft nila.

YAGI OLAGUERA, Cog

I’m not sure if Deftones is relevant anymore actually. At least not for the kids I guess. Definitely for those who grew up with the music it is. They’re definitely more relevant than the other alt-metal bands that came up with them because they were exceptional songwriters and they managed to balance the heavy and melodic elements of their sound.

Catch Deftones LIVE for the Koi No Yokan Tour 2013 Live in Manila on May 26, 2013 at the World Trade Center Manila. Tickets are still available at Ticketworld: www.ticketworld.com.ph or call 891-9999. This event is presented by Splintr.com in cooperation with LAMC Productions and Rockstar Touring.

Deftones Returns To Manila!

Posted on 02:05 by Unknown

After the success that was the Manila leg of the Diamond Eyes tour last 2011, DEFTONES are finally set to return to the Philippines! The show will be part of the band’s tour in support of their recently recorded album “Koi No Yokan”, which was released in November of last year. It will be held on May 26, 2013 at the World Trade Center, the same venue of their epic 2011 concert.

The Grammy Award winning band from Sacramento, California, comprises Chino Moreno, Stephen Carpenter, Frank Delgado, Abe Cunningham and Quicksand’s Sergio Vega filling in for bassist Chi Cheng. The band has successfully built upon their particular style of heavy music to be one of the most forward-thinking bands of our generation.

They’re also known for being one of the most hardworking bands in the business, always touring extensively behind their albums. “Koi No Yokan” is the seventh album from the band.

The 2011 Deftones concert proved to be a huge success, and it makes perfect sense to return with a new critically acclaimed album under their belt.  “Koi No Yokan” was produced by collaborator Nick Raskulinecz and contains new fan favorites like “Leathers”, “Tempest”, and “Entombed”.

The upcoming show is a chance to experience these new songs played in a live setting, and based on the band’s track record, this show will be another one for the books.

See you all at the World Trade Center on May 26, 2013 as Chino Moreno and company make their triumphant return to Manila!

Tickets on sale now via Ticketworld. Keep your eyes on Splintr.com for more details.

JONAS BROTHERS To Rock Manila and Cebu, October 19-20, 2012

Posted on 00:11 by Unknown

Picking up where they left off in 2010, Jonas Brothers will be performing together for the first time in three years. Their first visit to the Philippines is set at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on October 19, and at the Waterfront Hotel in Cebu on October 20 presented by That’s Ntertainment Productions.

After a three-year hiatus, brothers Nick, Joe and Kevin  reunite and perform for their Filipino fans  in an exciting concert sashaying a string of pop-rock hits as well as debut some of their new materials from their forthcoming album reported to be released by the end of 2012.

Hailed from Wyckoff, New Jersey, Jonas Brothers have taken over the hearts and bedroom walls of teenage girls everywhere since their 2007 debut. The trio came up with albums offering sets of catchy pop tunes-- including their 2007 single from the movie Meet the Robinsons titled "Kids of the Future" which was based from the song “Kids in America” of English pop singer Kim Wilde. Jonas Brothers also did a remake of the song “Year 3000” which was originally by pop-punk band Busted and was the trio's first single to chart and their first Top 40 hit.

‘JoBros,’ as their million fans fondly call them, also released their original pop radio hits like “Hold On”, as the band's first single from their self-titled second album in 2007. The iTunes Store named this single as #3 on their "Best of the Store" Playlist in 2007. Another hit song "SOS" rose to #17 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became the band's first single to reach the Top 20.

The song "When You Look Me in the Eyes" also consolidated their success and becoming the group’s power ballad. While “Burning Up” cemented the brothers as one of the hottest commodities in the pop music when this single became a hit via digital downloads and the group's first top five single in the US and highest charting song to date.

Disney Channel’s Jonas Brothers: Living the Dream (2008) also featured these brothers as the reality series follows them on their first nationwide tour, giving fans a glimpse of how the guys prepare for concerts-- as their life of rockstars. They also headed the big screen in 2008’s Disney Channel Original Movie titled Camp Rock which they starred with Disney’s pop star Demi Lovato and followed up a sequel in 2010’s Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam. Two excellent songs from the Disney Channel movie were “Camp Rock,” “Gotta Find You” and “This Is Me.” They also released their concert film Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experiencein 2009.

Despite the brothers’ respite from the stage for three years, brothers Nick, Joe and Kevin have enjoyed successful careers individually since leaving their days being the most culturally important American rock bands of the last decade.  Recently, Joe launched his solo career and is now a judge on the new CW music competition The Next, alongside Nelly, Gloria Estefan and John Rich. Joe was also one of the bachelors looking for love on Fox celebrity dating show The Choice.  Kevin and his wife Danielle are starring in the aptly-titled E!reality series Married to Jonas. Nick, the youngest among the three, stepped into the shoes of J. Pierrepont Finch in Broadway’s How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying.

The band has released four bouncy, breezy pop-rock album albums have sold over eight million copies worldwide in the albums  It's About Time, Jonas Brothers, A Little Bit Longer, and Lines, Vines and Trying Times. In 2008, the group was nominated for the Best New Artistaward at the 51st Grammy Awards, won the award for Breakthrough Artist at the American Music Awards and.

Catch an incredible experience as Jonas Brothers share their excitement to get back on stage once again at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on October 19, and at the Waterfront Hotel in Cebu on October 20 presented by That’s Ntertainment Productions.  For Manila ticket reservation, you may call SM Tickets at 470 2222 or reserve online at https://smtickets.com/. Concert Review: Hanson Heats Up Manila

Posted on 04:04 by Unknown

Title: Hanson Heats Up Manila
Written by Jamie Ortega
Photos by Kris Rocha
Back in the 90s, when Internet was a mere illusion, teen idols were plain images their fans would see in BOP, Teen Beat, Tiger Beat, and other teenybopper magazines. Their supporters would catch them on TV every so often, but with foreign concerts extremely scarce back then meeting them in person seemed like it would never happen. With the resurgence of all these 90s bands making a comeback, 90s kids (like this writer) are given a renewed sense of vigor, that their childhood fantasies can, in fact, become a reality.

Like they say, one should never stop dreaming, because life, in all its’ unpredictability, can give you a wonderful whack. When this writer was back in high school and struggling with the usual issues kids cope with, (bullies, grades, and in this case the death of her mom, and remarrying of her dad)  Hanson tunes I Will Come To You and With In Your Dreams helped her with her journey. Fast forward 15 years later and to just be given the chance to tell these things straight to the band’s face at their press conference for their two day concert  entitled Hanson Shout It Tour Live In Manila was an unbelievably surreal experience- to say the least.  So surreal that this writer forgot what they replied to her, but to just be afforded that chance was more than enough.

To those unfamiliar with the band, (and I am surmising probably didn’t grow up in the ‘90s), Hanson is made up of brothers Isaac, Taylor, and Zac. Their debut album Middle Of Nowhere sold 10 million copies worldwide and earned the band three Grammy nominations. Known for their soul-inspired-brand of American pop-rock n roll, some of their most popular tunes are MMMBOP, Where’s The Love, and I Will Come To You. Lo and behold, like a dream come true, Hanson performed in Manila last March 30 at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum and March 31 at the Cebu Waterfront Hotel as part of their Shout It Our World Tour.

The crowd at the show, made up mostly of female yuppies (including a KC Concepcion standing on a chair in the front row nearly the entire time), screamed with excitement as the trio kicked off the show with a relatively new tune, Waiting For This, from their newest album Shout It Out. With charisma emanating from nearly every pore of their bodies, Taylor took charge of the piano, Isaac strummed away with his guitar, and Zac banged away on the drums.

By the time they took on their second song, their 1997 hit Where’s The Love, it was apparent how the band’s sound as a whole changed. There’s still a sugary sweet tinge to their musical styling but there is also a new depth in their voices, a soulful, bluesy edge as they clapped their hands while singing the song’s bridge. One thing that didn’t change? The band’s hair flips, their utterly charming smiles, and their undeniable passion for music.

Taylor seemed to be the most energetic of the three as he would clap his hands while playing the piano in between songs. I couldn’t help but notice, however, how the screen at the Smart Araneta Coliseum would focus on Zac every so often. Talk about more than a little camera time!

“It’s fun to be back in the Philippines thanks for joining us, we are taking you back to 1997,” introduced Taylor, before launching into one of their biggest hits, Thinking Of You. The nostalgic fest was continued with This Time Around from their 2000 compilation bearing the same name as well as Penny And Me from their sixth studio commercial album.

One of their most applauded numbers was With You In Your Dreams which Taylor commented they always wanted to perform with a gospel choir. It was as if the entire Coliseum was transported to the 90s ( and this writer was transported to her highschool days as she would play the Hanson cassette tape before crying herself to sleep)as the band performed with gusto. “I heard you guys could sing,” commented Taylor, “You’re right, you guys can sing,” he said, just before the song ended.

As expected another number which made the crowd go crazy was Mmmbop. Taylor acknowledged how the song put them on the map and how they hope they will perform for another r15 years (and for as long as they may live, we hope!). This was one of their most energetic numbers, with Taylor standing up and running around the stage, encouraging people to sing with them.

For their encore, their first hit If Only, Taylor posed another challenge. “We know you guys can make noise the thing is can you jump?” Needless to say everyone was jumping around and screaming and, I am pretty sure, transported in their own way, to the good ole days. To paraphrase a line from MMMbop may this night remind everyone from every era to follow the MMMbop philosophy, to "hold on to the ones who really care. In the end they'll be the only ones there".

Other celebrities spotted at the event: Kean Cipriano, Alex Gonzaga and Baron Geisler.
Thanks to Dayly Entertainment!
